Tara Flow is a dictation keyboard for iPhone, built by one independent developer in New Zealand. This page explains, plainly, what data the app and gettarapp.com touch, what leaves your phone, and what never does.
Your voice is turned into text on your iPhone and the audio is never uploaded. Your dictation history, Jots, AutoFill triggers and the words the keyboard learns stay on your phone. Text only leaves your phone if you turn on Smart cleanup, and we don't store it.
Tara Flow uses Apple's on-device speech recognition (requiresOnDeviceRecognition). Your audio is processed on your iPhone and is never sent anywhere.
Smart cleanup is coming with Tara Flow Pro and isn't available yet. It will be optional and off by default. When you turn it on, the text of each dictation — never audio — is sent to gettarapp.com/api/flow-cleanup, which passes it to Google's Gemini API for one pass of punctuation and filler-word cleanup and returns the result. We don't store the text. The only thing kept is a rate-limit counter: your app's device ID, the date and a number. Google processes the text transiently under its own privacy policy. AutoFill values are filled in on your phone after cleanup, so the server only ever sees your trigger word, not what it expands to.
The keyboard needs Full Access so it can talk to the Tara Flow app. It doesn't send what you type anywhere. To make suggestions better it learns words and word pairs you use, and keeps them in the keyboard's own storage on your phone; you can clear them any time in Settings → Learned words.
Your dictation history, Jots, AutoFill triggers and values, learned words and emoji recents are stored only on your iPhone. None of it is uploaded, synced or included in analytics.
The app sends basic usage events: a randomly generated device ID (not your Apple ID or name), the name of the action (e.g. "dictation completed"), the app version and a timestamp. Event names come from a fixed list with no free-text field, so your dictated text can't be attached to one. If the app crashes, Sentry receives a crash report with the device model, iOS version, app version and the app events leading up to it — not your text. Both are covered by "Share anonymous usage data" in Settings, which you can turn off at any time. In the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland it starts off and is only on if you turn it on; elsewhere it starts on.
gettarapp.com has no accounts and no cookies. If you join the waitlist we store your email address; if you send feedback we store your message, its category and your email if you give one. Forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which sees your IP address to tell people from bots.
Cloudflare (website, database, Turnstile), Google (Smart cleanup text) and Sentry (crash reports). Some of them process data outside New Zealand, including in the United States. We don't sell or share your data with anyone else.
Waitlist emails, feedback and analytics events are kept until you ask us to delete them, or until we no longer need them. Smart cleanup text is not kept at all.
You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — email the address below (include the email you used, if it's about the waitlist or feedback). Deleting the app removes everything stored on your phone. If you're not happy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Tara Flow isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app.
